Karolyn Corrine (Kuehl) Earnshaw passed away of natural causes on December 29, 2015 in Olympia, Washington, at age 97. She and her identical twin Kathryn were born November 26, 1918 to Leslie R. and Elma Kuehl in Clarkston, Washington. Karolyn graduated from Clarkston High School in 1937 and Washington State University in 1943 with a Bachelor’s degree. Her first teaching position was at the Naselle High School in Naselle, Washington, where she taught English, music and drama. After she was married, she moved to Oregon and obtained her Oregon State teaching certification from the University of Oregon. She taught 5th grade in Lane County, Oregon until she retired. Karolyn was a strong, single parent. She was witty, loving, and wrote poetry. She was an avid reader, and loved to garden and dance. She also loved live music, concerts, Mariners baseball games, and participating in the WSU Cougars International Fan Club activities. She was a member of Lacey Chapel and Eastern Star, both of which she enjoyed greatly. Karolyn is survived by her sons, William K. Earnshaw of Springfield, Oregon, and James Earnshaw of Cottage Grove, Oregon; daughters, Ruth Shiohira of Anacortes, Washington, Mary Lange of Eugene, Oregon, and Lois Bell of Roseburg Oregon; sister, Kathryn Wilber of Olympia; seven grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her father, Leslie R. Kuehl; mother, Elma L. Rinard; brothers, Kenneth Randolph Kuehl and Kingsley Calvin Kuehl; sisters, Lilyanne Barnea, Joy Craven and Nina Westlin; and grandparents who were all pioneers to Washington State, Amerian L. Rinard and Martha Bond, and Henry C. Kuehl and Alpha Motter. Please leave memories of Karolyn or condolences for her family in the Guestbook below.
