Mary Katherine Harris ?Kat? Mrs. Harris, 86, of Charlotte, NC was born Mary Katherine Commander in Charlotte, NC in 1924. She was the daughter of Ernest Lee Commander and Lelia Byrd. Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Ira ?Ike? Marshall Harris; her daughter, Linda Stafford; and her brothers, Ernest Lee, Jr. and Harold Byrd. She is survived by her daughter Marsha Katherine Shands of Acworth, GA. Kat was a woman of tremendous faith and was a founding member of Forest Hills Church, previously Forest Hills Presbyterian Church. She retired from First Federal Savings & Loan after thirty years of service. Her hobbies included gardening, because of her love of flowers, sewing and she spent many hours boating on Lake Wylie. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, March 16, 2011 in the chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd. Charlotte, NC 28203. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 12:30 until the time of service. Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Hastings, Bill Fish, Pete Toomey, and her sons-in-law Bill Shands and Paul Stafford. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 6000 Fairview Rd. Suite 200, Charlotte, NC 28210.
