Obituary Katherine E. Conner of Colorado Springs died Wednesday, December 20, 2017. She was 85. The first child of the late Edward and Irene Bowman, she grew up in the Kansas City area and attended Kansas State University before her marriage to Dr. H. Dalton Conner in 1954. After living in Arkansas, Texas, and Germany, her growing family settled in Colorado Springs in 1964. Katherine was an active community volunteer and for many years held leadership positions with the Colorado Springs Child Nursery Centers, the Penrose-St. Francis hospital board, the Assistance League of Colorado Springs, and the Colorado Springs Debutante Ball Committee. Katherine was a quietly generous person with a keen mind who enjoyed travel, reading, and spending time with friends and family located across the country. She is survived by her husband; her siblings Bonnie Griffith (Jack) of Belleville IL, Edward Bowman of Lenexa KS, Byron Bowman (Sylvia) of Lawton OK, and Suzie Lee (Jim) of Easton PA; her children Darcie Johnston of Madison WI, Keith Conner (Leslie) of Englewood CO, and Jenee Schmergel (Paul) of Greenwood Village CO; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Katherine and Daltons eldest son Vince died in 2011. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at the Broadmoor Community Church. At a later date, Katherine will be inurned in the churchs Meditation Glen columbarium next to her son. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Colorado Springs Child Nursery Centers Foundation at 104 Rio Grande St, Colorado Springs, CO 80903.
