Katherine "Sally" Mock Dillon
May 7th, 1933 - June 15th, 2017
Katherine "Sally" Mock Dillon, 84, passed away at the Unlimited Possibilities Family Care Home in Mint Hill, NC on June 15, 2017, after saying goodbye to her three children. Sally was born in Charlotte, NC on May 7, 1933, graduating from Central High School in 1951 and Women's College (now UNCG) in 1953. She grew up in the Dilworth neighborhood, where she met her husband, Joe Dillon. Sally and Joe grew up on opposite sides of Latta Park and played together in the park as kids, along with Sally's brothers and cousins. They were married in June, 1953 and then moved to Texas where Joe completed his service with the Air Force. Upon returning to Charlotte, Sally worked at Celanese Corporation until they welcomed their first child in 1956. She thereafter served as CEO/CFO of her family, keeping everyone (Joe included) in line. Sally was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe Dillon, her father and mother, James Olin Mock and Mary Russ Mock, of Charlotte, NC, and her brother Jack Conkwright of Cornelius, NC. Surviving her are her brother James Mock of Oak Island, NC , her son J. Scott Dillon and wife Camey of Greensboro, NC, her son W. Mark Dillon and wife Adele of Charlotte, NC, and her daughter Jenny Dillon Primm and husband Phil of Charlotte, NC, as well as her seven grandchildren, Tim Dillon (and wife Betsey), Camelyn Gustafson (and husband David), Reid Dillon, Christopher Dillon, Mark Dillon, Jr., Jett Primm and Rocky Primm, and two great grandchildren, Charlie Dillon and Lily Gustafson. Sally was loved by all her nieces and nephews, Bub, Kathy, Cheryl, Jimmy, Bobby, Beth and their families, as they were loved by her. An avid tennis player (and tennis mother), Sally was a member of Olde Providence Racquet and Swim Club in the '70's and '80's, where she played on many league teams and built lasting friendships. Sally was quick to smile, outgoing and friendly. She loved people and valued her relatives and many lifelong friends. More than anything, Sally and Joe loved sharing family times at their Lake Norman home in Denver. Her light dimmed in recent years as she lived with dementia. However, her love of her family, red wine, and chocolate (not necessarily in that order) never faded. Her bright blue eyes will be missed by all who knew her. Friends and family are invited to drop by to celebrate Sally's life and legacy and share stories in a casual setting at the home of Mark and Adele Dillon at 1015 Romany Road, Charlotte NC from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 23. A private family service will follow on a date to be determined. The family would like to give a special thanks to James Scruggs and his mission to create a warm, loving home environment for those coping with memory impairment. Sally began residing at his Unlimited Possibilities Family Care Home in January 2015. His caring and professional staff and her fellow residents became a loving support system for her during that time, and we will be forever in his debt for providing such a warm, safe environment for her. We would also like to thank Hospice & Palliative Care-Charlotte Region for their sensitive care and support. Memorials may be made to the Dilworth Community Association with a notation for Latta Park improvements, P.O. Box 36023, Charlotte, NC 28236-6023, or the American Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 9601, Washington, DC 20090 (alz.org/donate).
