This is my sister Kathleen Ann Delaney. She passed away early Sunday morning August 23 after a short illness. Kathy was born in Colorado Springs, CO on September 9, 1950, she always reminded me that she was born on a decade. Her parents were Robert and Mary Delaney. She was the second of seven children. She attended Divine Redeemer grade school, East Junior High and Benet Hill Academy, class of 1969. Kathy lived in Denver and worked for the Veterans Hospital for over 20 years, in a variety of positions including nursing staff and her last as a claims clerk. Kathy had two children, her son Robert Dural and Rita Dural, her daughter and best friend. She loved her kids, but she was over the moon for her three grandchildren, Aiden Vandenberg 11, Blake Dural 13 and Ayla Dural one year old. If she had a new picture or a new little video she would share it with everyone. They truly were her pride and joy. Kathy loved the zoo and her idea of a perfect day was to go there with her kids and grandkids, the more the merrier. When her children were younger she was a ready field day chaperone, brownie troop leader, anything that needed to be done she was there. She liked to just get in the car and drive somewhere with the kids, maybe Central City, maybe Colorado Springs, just go. Kathy had a very dry sense of humor and if you weren’t paying attention you might miss it. I came to visit her in the ICU and the OT specialist asked her if she knew who I was and she very seriously said no, she didn’t know who I was . She quickly read the dismay on my face and said, " of course I know who that is, it's my sister Mary, we’ve been sisters for almost 70 years". Even though she was gravely ill at the end she was able to joke with her care givers. She was an avid Democrat. She made me promise to bring her her ballot as soon as it arrived. It was our tradition to go to breakfast and use that time to fill out our ballots. We had our blue book so if we didn’t know something about an issue we could look it up. She always made sure something was wrong that would require her to go to the polling place…I think she just wanted to get an “I Voted “ sticker. I’m now entertaining the federal crime of voter fraud, just so she can vote one more time. (Just kidding). She took an Outward Bound course to conquer some fears, passing that was a big accomplishment, she was proud of that, and rightly so. She was an avid reader, John Grisham a favorite author. She used to make rosaries for the Rosary Society at her church. She loved to crochet, she had to give it up when her cataracts got too bad, she was looking forward to taking it up again because surgery restored her vision. Kathy was survived by her two children, Robert Dural and Rita Dural, her three grandchildren Blake Dural 13, Ayla Dural 1, and Aiden Vandenberg 11, and her six siblings Mary Delaney, Robert Delaney (Michael Paglia), Eileen Seiter (Doug Seiter), Christine Delaney (Bill Graham), John Brown Delaney and Michael Delaney (Bonnie Delaney). We spent a lot of time together the last few years. I am going to miss her terribly. Rest in peace Kathy. Love, Mary Due to the Corona Virus restrictions there will be no public service so please offer a prayer or kind thought on your own. The Denver Zoo was Kathy’s favorite place if you want to make a donation to the Denver Zoo I know it would be appreciated.
