Kathleen "Kathi" DeMaria
May 24th, 1931 - March 17th, 2014
MONTEREY - Kathleen "Kathi" DeMaria, age 82, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Monterey on Monday, March 17, 2014. Kathi was born Patricia Mary Kathleen Lewis on May 24, 1931 in New Monterey. She was raised alongside four brothers and one sister in Monterey by her parents Edna and H.R. Lewis. She attended Bayview Elementary and graduated from P.G. High School in 1949. Kathi lived in several places, including San Francisco and Honolulu, but always took a lot of pride in calling Monterey her home. Kathi married Manuel "Manny" DeMaria in 1955 and dedicated her time to raising a family. She had many interests and passions throughout her life, including skiing, golf, tennis, horseback riding, hunting and camping. She cherished her garden and had a passion for music. She sang professionally, played piano, and performed in musical theatre well into her 70's. Kathi loved to travel and was always ready to see something new and beautiful. She was also involved in many local associations and clubs, including the Carmel Woman's Club, the Monterey History and Art Association, Los Amigos, the Asian Art & History Association, the Monterey Ski & Social Club, the Elks Ladies, the Cypress Garden Guild, the Pacific Grove H.S. Alumni Association and was a past president of the New Monterey Business Association. She was also a member of the Pacific Coast Church since 1984. She and Manny owned several bars in New Monterey, including El Nido, Manny's Place and Starzz. Kathi was a driven woman with an entrepreneurial spirit and was always looking for a new challenge. She was preceded in death by her husband Manuel DeMaria, parents H.R. and Edna Lewis, brother Kenny Lewis and grandson Christopher DeMaria. She is survived by her daughter Sharon (Mike) Osgood; sons Jamey (Tina) DeMaria & Manuel "Dee" DeMaria; grandchildren Kelli (Luke) Neubert, Jaydee DeMaria, David (Heather) Osgood, Justin DeMaria, Danielle DeMaria, Alison Osgood and Aaron Osgood; great-grandchildren Trista and Davey Osgood; brothers Norman Lewis, Gordon (Norma) Lewis, Richard (Donna) Lewis; and sister Gloria Elber (Reed Scott). The family would like to thank Kathi's caring Doctors, nurses and caregivers. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Seeds in His Garden (SIHG), POBox 919, Seaside,CA 93955. A celebration of life will be held for Kathi at the Elks Lodge in Monterey on Sunday, March 30, 2014 from 1:00-4:00pm.
