Mrs. Kathleen ?Kate? Smith, age 63 of Gloversville, died suddenly on Sunday, December 9, 2007 at Nathan Littauer Hospital Emergency Room. She was born March 10, 1944 in Johnstown, the daughter of the late William and Lillian Ellsworth Stewart. Educated at Johnstown schools, she was employed for many years at Bridge Manufacturing, and later at Halo Optical, both in Gloversville. Kate enjoyed life and adored her grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Edward M. Smith of Gloversville; two daughters, Rebecca L. Palmateer of Johnstown and Kathy Johnson and her husband Rodney of Wells; a brother, Martin Jones of Johnstown; two sisters, Wanda Ellsworth and Marion Batease and husband George, both of Gloversville; two grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Palmateer and Darrin J. Palmateer II; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Isabel Dudley, and by a brother, Melton Snyder. The family will receive relatives and friends from 3 to 5 pm Tuesday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville. Interment will take place in the spring at North Bush Cemetery, town of Caroga. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Rd; Albany, NY 12205.
