Kathryn Bennett Close

Mrs. Close, aged 57, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2018. Kathy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister. Kathy was born March 3, 1960 in Augusta, GA to Brad and Evalyn Bennett. She was a graduate of Augusta Preparatory School and earned her Bachelor of Arts from Salem College in Winston-Salem, NC. Upon graduating from college, Kathy settled in Charlotte, NC, where she started a family, and eventually obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Queens Presbyterian School of Nursing, graduating with high honors. She practiced for years as a respected oncology nurse. She was active in the Junior League of Charlotte, and a frequent volunteer at her children's schools. Kathy was an accomplished tennis player, avid reader, and was known for her sharp wit and humor. Kathy is survived by her husband, Paul Close, of Charlotte; son, Cliff Edahl (Megan) and granddaughter, Margaret, of Alexandria, VA; daughter Virginia Molan (Brendan); parents, Brad and Evalyn Bennett of Augusta, GA; sister, Carolyn Hudson (John) of Charlotte; brother, Brad Bennett (Elizabeth) of Atlanta, GA; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and her faithful rescue dog, Jethro. The family will receive friends at the home of John and Carolyn Hudson from 6-8pm on Tuesday, January 30, 2018. A memorial service will be celebrated in the chapel St. Gabriel's Catholic Church at 11am on Wednesday, January 31, 2018. A private burial will be held at a later date in Augusta, GA. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Aldersgate Hospice. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation of Arlington, VA.
