Kathryn A. Pepe

Kathryn A. Pepe, 86, of Oakland Ave., Amsterdam, entered into eternal life on Thursday, April 23, 2015, at St. Peter's Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Amsterdam on August 4, 1928, she was the daughter of John J. McGillin Sr. and Catherine (Burns) McGillin, and was a lifelong Amsterdam resident. A devout Catholic, she was a communicant of St. Mary's Church who had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother. Kathryn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who especially enjoyed time spent with family and attending her grandchildrens' school activities. A 1946 graduate of St. Mary's Institute, Kathryn was a library aide at Theodore Roosevelt Junior High School, and a librarian at St. Mary's Institute. Later, she joined her husband in operating Pepe's Restaurant until its closing in April, 2000. On June 11, 1949, Kathryn was united in marriage with Samuel L. Pepe, who survives her. She is also survived by her four children, Richard (Elisa) Pepe of Princetown, Mary Elizabeth (John) Bottisti of Amsterdam, Michael (Alison) Pepe of Amsterdam, and Christopher Pepe of Broadalbin; six grandchildren, Christina (Peter) Berrian, Daniel (Alexandra) Pepe, Maria Bottisti, Ann Bottisti, Meghan (Dan Evans) Pepe, and Leah Pepe; and three great-grandchildren, Clare Kathryn Pepe, Anna Frances Pepe, and Adriene Elise Berrian. She eagerly awaited the arrival of her fourth great-grandchild in September. Kathryn is also survived by her brother, John J. McGillin Jr. (Arlene) of Amsterdam; brothers-in-law John, James and Joseph Pepe; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by her sister-in-law, Salvina (Pepe) Fischetti. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:15 AM on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main St. Amsterdam. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ft. Johnson, NY. Calling hours will be Monday, April 27, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam.
