Katrina S. Harbour
January 15th, 1933 - May 2nd, 2016
Mrs. Katrina S. Harbour, of Amsterdam, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 2, 2016 with her loving family by her side. Katrina was born on January 15, 1933, the daughter of the late Peter and Evelyn Belfance Lokenberg. She graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1950, and later went on to attend NYS College for Teachers, Albany. She married the late Richard A. Sorette in Rochester, NY in September of 1952. Three years later they began their family and together raised nine children until his untimely death in November of 1971. Katrina married Charles Harbour on August 5, 1978 and enjoyed over 37 years of marriage. Katrina loved her family and the family home that was built by her grandfather in 1908. She, her mother and her children were raised there, enjoying the wonderful stone gardens designed and built by her father. Katrina would often share plants from these gardens along with stories of days gone by. She instilled a great love of music and lifelong learning in each of her children. Katrina was especially known for her knitted fisherman sweaters and layettes. In recent years, she knitted and gifted over 70 dolls. While her children were growing up she was active in the PTA, becoming president of the council and a life member. She worked for the Meals for the Elderly for over 20 years until her retirement. She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Amsterdam, and later the First Reformed Church in West Glenville. Katrina will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her husband, survivors include her eight children: Karol (Kevin) Eckelman of Tribes Hill, NY, Martin Sorette of Amsterdam, NY, Renee (Barry) Chin of Marshfield, MA, Jennifer (Rodney) Newhook of Amsterdam, NY, Valerie (Joseph) Capriglione of Huntersville, NC, Philip (Heather) Sorette of Cordova, TN, David (Lauren) Sorette of Cincinnati, OH, and Michele Sorette of Mooresville, NC; step-children, Laurie (Wayne) Fischer, Michele (Ed) Blake, and David Harbour; twenty-four grandchildren, JoAnn (Frank) Vroman; Christopher, Alana, Alexander, and Jonathon Chin; Nathaniel and Nicole Wood; Robert Newhook; Jeremy, Joshua and Natalie Capriglione; Allison and Emma Sorette; Luke and Peter Sorette; Alisha (Michael) Lowder; Christina, Christopher, Alden and Hayley Upright; Nick Fischer; Brian, Tom and Abby Blake; eleven great grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Walter "Chip" (Mary) Dixon; two nephews, Walter (Jennifer) Dixon and Dana (Stacy) Dixon. She was predeceased by her first husband, Richard, her daughter Karen Gorman, and her sister Betsy Dixon. A Private Service of Remembrance will take place on Monday, May 16, 2016 at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Burial will follow in the Union Rural Cemetery, Mayfield, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the Montgomery County Office for Aging, Inc.
