She has four grandchildren; Amanda Dirkx, Nicholas Samson (Lauren), Larry Holt III (Jenni) and Chris Holt (Hayley), Tarah Haar (Jason) and Ashton Shafer. She had an honorary grandma relationship with Michael Reid, Taylor Reid (Kyrie) and Cody Reid. She has four great-grandchildren; Christopher Dirkx, Matthew Dirkx, Riley Schlientz Holt, Grace Schlientz Holt, Lillie Olney, Easton Olney, Ethan Haar and Jamison Haar. She is survived by her brother’s, Charles Cox (Kristin) and Gary Cox (Jan). She is also survived by her late husband’s brother, Brian Holt. She has many wonderful nieces and nephews. Kay has been a resident of California for 62 years and has lived in Lakeside for the past 15 years with Larry and Heidi. She and her husband, Larry, were self employed for 43 years as Larry Holt’s Speed Specialties and earned a long lasting reputation in their field. She spent many years at the drag strip supporting her husband’s passion and later her son and grandson’s. Kay’s entire world revolved around her pets, family, and friends. She loved playing with her great-grandchildren! She was game for anything… as long as she didn’t have to leave her dogs!! She had a passion for buying and selling dolls. She enjoyed going to the desert. She loved family gatherings where her potato salad was the number one request. She enjoyed putting puzzles together and watching the Hallmark channel. Kay had a resounding faith in Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior. This faith kept her strong to the very end. The following are a few beautiful sentiments that have been left by some family and friends that really capture the essence of who Kay was. “At 9:13pm tonight our family lost a wonderful, beautiful woman, my mother-in-law Kay Holt. She earned her reward and has gone to heaven to be with her best friend and love of her life. Our hearts are broken but we smile with the thought of the two of them reuniting.” Heidi Holt “It has been many years since Heidi and Larry joined us all together into one family. You and Pop were kind and loving from the beginning. First, we were mothers-in-law together. You were already a grandmother when we became grandmother’s and great grandmothers together. You would always say you, Judy and I were “special sisters.” Through it all, we have been and will be forever friends. Right now, your passing has left a huge gaping hole in the hearts of all of our family but, in time, those holes will be filled with your cherished love and so many memories. I will miss you so much….I already do….but I will treasure you in my heart always. Rest well, my “special sister.”” Sandra Taylor-Reid “I know I tend to bottle up my feelings and not tell how people who I care about the most how much they really mean to me. You have touched my life more then you may know I will miss you so much. And I know that my children will too. They loved to play mom with you and they just truly enjoyed being around you. I know it will be hard to not have you around everyday like my kids, my husband, and I are use to. But we will get threw this and you will forever be our garden angle you always took such good care of us kids and for that I will forever be grateful.” Jenni Schlientz Holt “Our hearts are breaking with your passing, but our love for you and our memories will last forever. Love you, Kay, with all of my heart. “ Judy Taylor “Tonight at 9:13 my amazing grandma was called to heaven..she’s now pain free and with her love of her life and her many many fur babies. We love you grandma-rest in peace” Amanda Dirkx “Heaven has gained another angel tonight. Words cannot even describe how I feel. I love you so much Grandma Kay. Rest In Peace.” Christopher Holt “Last night my son-in-law lost his Grandma Kay Holt. She lived with Larry most of his life. Grandma helped raise little Larry Holt III and his brother Chris. She was a huge part of their lives. The Holt family is missing her greatly today. I will never forget her telling me Larry and Jenni were meant for each other when Riley was 2 months old and the kids were moving out of their first apartment. I wasn’t sure, we both agreed they were very young and not ready to live together at that time. I can say now almost five years later Grandma Kay was correct. She always loved seeing Riley and Grace. This picture shows how much she loved her great grand children. I didn’t know here as well as most, but she will be missed in my life. Her spirit watches over her loved ones and will live on inside each of them forever.” Kathy Schlientz “My dear friend Kay lost her fight with leukemia last night! She gave it her best to stay but, the Lord decided she could be with her sweetheart, Larry, now!” Linda Olpin Shafer-Coates “Prayers for all of us that will miss this beautiful woman, we were in grade school, Jr High and High school, until she married the love of her live. I will miss her.” Abbie Schwab “Larry I am so sorry about your loss, God has received your mother in the company of all the angels in heaven. Kay rest in peace.” Pedro Torres “I didn’t know you for very long but all the times I’ve gotten to be around you, you were very funny and sweet. I hope you rest in paradise and continue to watch over the family. Taylor and I love you grandma Kay ” Kyrie Skinner Reid “To Larry, Heidi & Cathy, I’m so sorry for your loss. Ms. Kay Holt was an amazing lady. I am so happy she was a part of my life. I will miss all those great dinner conversation we had. I love you all!” Shanda Berke “Gary Cox’s sister passed away last night after a brief but devastating leukemia diagnosis. She was able to catch snow flakes last may on Mt. Bachelor. She loved many things but being with family was at the top of her list.” Jan Cox “Gary and Jan, we are so sorry to hear this. I remember her wonderful smile and cheerful spirit. Will be praying for the whole family. God comfort you as only He can.” Janet Landry “A National City Junior High and SUHI Classmate friend. Sorry for her loss. Have many good memories of our friendship. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family who she loved so much.” Sandra Sutton We love you Mom and will miss your bubbly, energy-packed presence. We are all better off for having had you in our lives. Rest in peace. “I know the LORD is always with me. I will not be shaken, for He is right beside me.” Psalms 16: 8 Do not weep for me, for I have lived… I have joined my hand with my fellows’ hands, to leave the planet better than I found it. Do not weep for me, for I have loved and been loved by my family, by those I loved who loved me back for I never knew a stranger, only friends. Do not weep for me. When you feel the desert sand upon your face, I am there. When your heart beats faster at our grandchildren’s cherished milestones, I am there. When you reach out to touch another’s heart, as now I touch God’s face, I am there. Do not weep for me. I am not gone.
