Kelly "Joe" McFarland
September 24th, 1927 - November 11th, 2017
Kelly "Joe" McFarland was born in Stillwell, Oklahoma, on January 24, 1927. He slipped sweetly into the presence of his heavenly father while at home in Yuba City, on the morning of November 11, 2017, at the age of 90. In 1938, his family moved to Redding, CA, where he graduated from high school in 1945 and joined the US Army. In 1948, he married Margie Davenport from Waldren, Arkansas, who had caught his eye one Sunday night at Live Oak Assembly of God. They moved to Rio Dell, CA, where Joe was employed by the Pacific Lumber Company. Joe and Marge had 2 children, Kelly Jr., in 1952, and Karla Sue in 1956. Early in 1957, they relocated to Antioch, CA. Starting out as a groundsman with the Antioch School District, Joe retired in the 1980's as Maintenance Forman for 15 school campuses. Joe had the right combination of temperament, wisdom and skill and was appreciated by his entire team. He also served as board member and treasurer for 25 years at the First Assembly of God Church in Antioch. In 1988, Joe and Margie moved back to Yuba City where they had many relatives and friends. Joe was employed by "The Refuge" for several years. He was also an active member of Calvary Christian Center serving on the Church Board and as an usher until he was no longer able. They loved their church and the many friends they had made and hardly ever missed a service. Joe McFarland is beloved by his devoted wife of 69 years and adored by his entire family. He is honored as a man of gentle spirit, great faith and devotion. He was faithful in all things. His influence was remarkable. He always exhibited loving kindness and generosity. He lead by example. His counsel was always worthy, consistent and wise. He will be greatly missed. Joe was preceded in death by his father and mother, Luther and Effie McFarland; brothers, Louie and Jerry; and a sister, Norma Higgins all of Live Oak. Joe is survived by his wife Margie; son Kelly Jr. of Portland, OR; daughter Karla Costen of Sacramento, CA; 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Joyce Fewell of McKinleyville, CA, Shirley Collins of Live Oak, CA, Helen Kerns of Madera, CA; and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at the Live Oak Cemetery at 11:00 AM November 17, 2017, and at 12:00 noon a reception will follow at My Father's House Church in Live Oak, Ca.
