Kenneth (Red) W. Blodgett passed away on December 2, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. Ken was born on September 13, 1930 in Oregon City, Oregon to Clinton A. and Mabel Wells Blodgett. He joined his older brother and sister Forrest and Iris.He graduated from Oregon City High School in 1948. Ken joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served in the Korean War as Yeoman in the Command Transport Division 11.After he was discharged he joined the Oregon City Police Department as a Patrolman in 1953.Ken met Millie and they married December 27, 1953.They were blessed with three children, Shari, Bob, and Christi. Ken’s served the communities of Oregon City and Portland for thirty-eight years as a very well-respected police officer.He started as a patrolman in Oregon City and retired as a Detective from Portland Police Department.During his time as a Homicide Detective he was always given the most difficult cases because of his impressive ability to solve them.Dad always shared the lighter side of his police career with his family and friends and strove to help people whenever he could. When they retired Ken and Millie moved to Prineville, Oregon. They loved traveling the United States and Canada in their Motorhome for many years.They met many very special friends during their travels.He loved music and dancing. He was a lifetime member of the Prineville Elks and Portland Police Retirees. Our family would like to thank all of the loving and compassionate caregivers at Kaiser Hospice, Thelma’s Place, and Countryside Living for caring for Ken like family. A special thank you to Dr. Tamashiro as Ken’s personal physician. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Forrest C. Blodgett and sister Iris C. Schmitz.He is survived by his loving wife Millie.His children Shari (Bob) Horn, Bob (Vickie) Blodgett, and Christi (Steve) Vernon.Grandchildren Jenny (Greg) Hagen, Carman (Scott) Gerlach, Robb (Natasha) Horn, Daniel (Becca) Horn, Patrick Vernon, and Maggie (Jason) Trujillo.Great Grandchildren Grant Hagen, William Hagen, Jordin Gerlach, Lila Gerlach, Alyssa Horn, Gavin Horn, Sarah Horn, Sydney Horn, Jackson Horn, and Joseph Horn. Ken was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, “bumpa”, “cinnamon bear” and “ggpa”.He lived his life as a wonderful role model to his children and grandchildren and instilled in all of us honesty, humor, hard work and respect but most of all love and compassion.His family was always his priority. Services for Ken will be held Monday, December 9, 2019 at 11 am (Please arrive by 10:30 AM) at Willamette National Cemetery. Reception will follow immediately after the service at Hope Village Community Room located at 1535 S Ivy St., Canby, OR. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials in Ken’s name be made to: Kaiser Permanente Hospice Program, Attn: Stacy Kurt, 2701 NW Vaughn St., Unit 140, Portland, OR 97210.
