Kenneth (Ken) Ferger 9/13/1938 – 2/20/2023 Ken Ferger was born in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho on September 13th, 1938, he was 84 years old. Ken was the youngest of 3 boys born to John and Ethel Ferger. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Carol Johnson Ferger. Daughters: Pat Wald, Dawn Peterson and Gary, Penny Olsen and Brian. 6 Grandchildren: Chad Wald, Krisi Dame, Cory Peterson, TeJay Peterson, Kenny Olsen and Daniel Olsen. 9 Great Grandchildren: Maycie Dame, Kaylee Dame, Taylin Peterson, Mackenlee Wald, Brylee Wald, Me’La Olsen, Cash Olsen, Nox Olsen and Mack Olsen. And his middle brother Robert (Bob) Ferger. Ken was preceded in death by his oldest brother William (Bill) Ferger. Ken graduated from Post Falls High school in 1957. He attended Coeur d’Alene Community College, Eastern Washington State College to attain his Bachelors degree, Ken also went on to Oregon State to receive his masters degree. Ken worked nights so he could go to school during the day, it was a busy time with very little sleep. He was an avid Portland Trailblazers fan but also loved to support the Oregon Ducks. Ken enjoyed hunting, boating, motorcycles, horses (of which he belonged to the Kootenai County saddle club and he was a member of the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Posse before moving to Springfield). He especially liked, off-roading at the Oregon sand dunes and winter times in the California desert with other retired friends. Ken also loved cruises of which he took many. Ken was a teacher for 29 years before he retired in 1996, he taught wood working, drafting, metals, electricity, and robotics. Ken finished his career as the department head of Thurston High school’s industrial department. Throughout his career he led the VICA program, the Neighborhood Youth Corp and the Youth work experience program. He enjoyed teaching and always encouraged his students to do great things and for him there was no greater feeling than seeing his students succeed.
