Kenneth Elmo Goins
February 8th, 1927 - October 24th, 2016
ELMO GOINS Kingsport- Kenneth Elmo Goins, 89, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Monday morning (October 24, 2016) at Indian Path Medical Center following an extended illness. He was born in Hancock County and had resided in Kingsport for almost 69 years. Elmo served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War having achieved the rank of Corporal. He retired from A & L Construction and was an avid farmer who enjoyed listening to bluegrass music and liked to go hunting. He especially liked to go to "the farm". He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, John & Flora Arrington Goins; sisters, Beulah Goins, Elvie Goins, Bonnie Forester, Gladys Ryans, Stella Gilliam, and Carrie Gilreath; a brother, Ewing Garber; his nieces, Patsy Goins and Maxine Holt along with his nephew, Denny Garber. Elmo Goins is survived by his loving wife, Nellie Mowdy Goins; his children, Kenneth Tony Goins (Linda), Tina Lyons, Sabrina Goins; grandsons, Kenneth Lyons (Heather), Eric Goins (Priscilla), Cole Goins (Ellie); great grandchildren, Isabella Lyons, Maya Goins, Sadie Rose Goins, Everett Goins, Sara Lyons, Mason Goins along with several nieces, nephews, and his special homecare giver, Theresa Watlington. Calling hours will be held on Friday (October 28, 2016) from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport or friends may also call anytime at the residence. A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday (October 29, 2016) at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Lawrence Wolfe, Rev. John Goins, and Brother Kenneth Lyons, officiating. A graveside service will follow the funeral ceremony on Saturday (October 29, 2016) at Oak Hill Cemetery with military rites being conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post #3/# 265 and Rev. Jack Hilton, officiating. John Goins, Kenneth Lyons, Randall Garber, Eric Goins, Cole Goins, Jesse Garber will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Garber, Herman Garber, and Trenity Watlington. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Goins family.
