Kenneth Earl Hawkins, 84, of Lakewood, died Saturday, November 21, 2009. He was born to the late Earl Hampton and Violet Casterline Hawkins, April 29, 1925, in Antrim, Ohio. He graduated from McKinley High School in Canton, Ohio, and joined the U.S. Army, serving in World War II in Algeria and Italy. He married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth Ann Rinner, in 1946; 3 years later he received a BS in Architecture from the University of Ohio in 1949. Ken was an insurance executive for Crum & Forster, Insurance Inc., and Reidman, Inc. He was an active member of Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder, Deacon, XYZ member, and served 44 years as building and grounds chairman and other various committees. He was passionate about serving wherever he could, and loved volunteering at Lutheran Hospital where he organized the parking lot shuttle cart service. Ken was a 32nd degree Mason & Shriner and enjoyed being a BIL with P.E.O. chapter EP Lakewood. Ken had numerous hobbies and was passionate about the Broncos and the game of golf. Betty and Ken were married 48 years until Betty’s death in 1995; Ken married Gene Downing Tolton in 1996 and they have had 13 wonderful years together. He is survived by wife Gene; children: Sandy & Jon Goins, Carol & Ken Jaeck, Bill Hawkins & Bobby Schaeffer, John & Sandy Kostibas, Chuck Tolton & Lucy Kay, Jim Tolton & Juli Bowen, David & Jennifer Tolton; grandchildren: Amy & Nate Thornton, Eric & Becca Goins, Justin & Tara Jaeck, Seth Jaeck, Cory Hawkins, Paul Hawkins, Kosti & Megan Kostibas, Alexi Kostibas, Alex Tolton, Sam Tolton , Peter Tolton, Carolyn Tolton; great-grandchildren: Baylor, Rinner, and Parke Thornton, Cooper Goins and John Kostibas. He is also survived by his late sister Verlie’s husband, Dave Kratz and family, Mary & Ed Maag (sister & brother in law) & family and Mary & Verne Leverson and many loving friends. Ken never met a stranger and never forgot a name. He inspired everyone by giving his best, walking the talk and finishing well. His compassion, integrity, honesty and willingness to go the extra mile were the foundations of his tireless work ethic. Ken will be honored at a memorial service at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 3 at the Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church, 11500 W. 20th Ave., Lakewood. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to either Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church, Lutheran Medical Center or the charity of your choice. Posted by All-States Cremation
