Kenneth Matson
June 23rd, 1924 - August 29th, 2010
Kenneth Matson passed away Sunday, August 29, 2010 in his home in Sutter Creek at the age of 86 years. He was born June 23, 1924 to John and Rosella (Hacker) Matson in Sutter Creek. Kenneth was attending Sutter Creek Union High School when the invasion of Pearl Harbor happened. He immediately joined the U.S. Navy and did not finish high school. Kenneth married his wife, Dorothy in Minden, NV in 1946. Upon his return from military service he and Dorothy settled in Volcano, where they would spend the next 55 years in the home he built. Kenneth worked for Cal Mills and retired after 42 years. Kenneth was very family oriented, enjoying camping trips to Silver Lake and staying in the family trailer at Plasse's Resort during the summer. Kenneth was a devoted Mason for over 54 years serving in all capacities and reaching the highest honor of 32nd Degree Mason. He is survived by his children, Delores Thornburg and husband, John, of Herald, CA, Ken Matson and wife, Louise, of Sutter Creek; brother, Rolly Matson of Volcano; niece, Dorothy Mohrmann of Sutter Creek; grandchildren, Matthew Thornburg, Melissa Mattingly, Aaron Matson, Amy Baker; 7 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Matson in 2003 and brother, Glenn Matson. At the family's request there will be no services. Inurnment will be in the Keystone Mausoleum at Sunset View Cemetery in Jackson. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner's Hospital, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95817.
