November 4th, 2016
Kenneth “Kenny” Nelson Werner passed away at the age of 90 on November 4, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, Merrill and Helen Werner; and his brother, Jack. Ken attended Bryant Grade School and Roosevelt High School in Seattle, and the University of Washington where he was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity. Ken joined the U.S. Merchant Marine where he served until the end of WWII. He then entered the U.S. Army during the Army of Occupation where he served as an MP at the War Crimes Trials in Tokyo, Japan. He received an Honorable Discharge. When the Korean War broke out, he was recalled into the Army where he served one year at Fort Ord, California, and one year in Korea. After his second Honorable Discharge, he took over his father’s tailor shop in Seattle’s University District. He operated the business for ten years, during which time he met and married the love of his life, Beverly. He sold the clothing business and went into sales at Jostens, working with students as they produced their school yearbooks, until his retirement. He and Beverly were able to enjoy their retirement, traveling extensively in the U.S., Europe, and the Far East. He enjoyed boating, fishing, and golf. He made a hole in one, TWICE! Ken belonged to the University Kiwanis Club and the Edmonds Senior Kiwanis Club. Ken is survived by his wife, Beverly; his three children, Susan (Scott), Nancy (Tony), and Keith (Shelley); six grandchildren, Jessica, Hannah, Allison, Anna, Kyle, Kayla; and one great grandchild, Alexis.
