Kevin Michael Fishler

February 24th, 1953 - January 8th, 2019

Kevin Michael Fishler passed away on Tuesday January 8, 2019 in Beaverton, Oregon at just 65 years of age. Kevin was born on February 24, 1953 to parents Stanley and Darlene Dougherty Fishler in Boston, MA. He spent his early years growing up in Boston, MA; Atlanta and Savannah, GA; Fort Worth, TX and finally settled in Portland, Oregon when he was 20 years old. He lived in Portland and the surrounding areas for the last 46 years. Kevin attended both Arlington Heights High School and Southwest High School and then went on to study at Tarrant County College. Kevin had a career as a journeyman welder at Union Pacific but spent most of his life working as a journeyman press operator (printer). He spent his years at Mail-Well Envelope Co., Graphic Arts Center, Paramount Graphics and, RR Donnelley & Sons where he retired in 2000. Kevin was an Eagle Scout and spent many years devoting his time to scouting. He even proudly helped his son Matthew achieve the rank at the age of 12. He was an assistant scoutmaster with Troop 423 in Tigard, Oregon where he spent countless days hiking, camping and developing his love for backpacking. He loved talking about the 120 mile trip he and his son Matthew backpacked at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico...he was so proud of that trip. As a teenager, he played drums in a garage band and loved riding his motorcycles. Some may say a little too fast as he sported a few speeding tickets in his day. He always reminisced about his ’68 BSA with megaphone pipes. Kevin had several dogs throughout the years and though none of us ever thought we would see the day, he even had two cats Mojave and Salem whom he fell in love with. Kevin was previously married to Trucene Heupel and then to his life companion, Mavis Gold. Kevin loved his family, and found his greatest joy when he was with them. His one of a kind smile, infectious laugh, genuine heart, and compassion will be missed by his family and all who loved him. Kevin is survived by sons Isaac Fishler and Matthew Fishler (Ashlee McDaniel), grandsons Elija and Memphis Fishler, companion Mavis Gold, father Stanley Fishler, sisters Valerie Fishler, Andrea White, and Stacy Buchanan (Robert) and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, an uncle and many beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his brother Geoffrey Fishler, daughter Melanie Stout, mother Darlene and brother-in-law David White. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 11065 SW North Dakota Street, Tigard, OR.

I still can't believe he's gone. Kevin lived his life on his own terms and lived it fully. He loved his family and friends with his whole heart. I was very lucky to be one of those people. Love to his family. It makes you realize you can't take anything for granted.

Kev, what I wouldn’t give to hear you ask us where we’re going one more time, or to hear you laugh at your jokes :) I’m so thankful for the role you played in my life, I’m missing you so much. I will forever have a different perspective on life because of you. Thanks for raising Matt to be the man he is today, you’re a huge part of why he’s so great. I love you more than you knew! I know I’ll see you again one day and I can’t wait for that reunion.

I love you dad. Thank you for teaching everything you knew, raising me to be a man, being my biggest fan and supporter, being my hero, and most of all being my best friend in the whole world. Just as much as you lived every day for me, I lived every day for you. I promise I'll continue to do the right thing and make you proud. I can't wait to see you again some day.
