Kimberly Ann Brent
May 25th, 1956 - September 1st, 2010
Kimberly Ann Brent, 54, passed away at home with her family by her side on September 1, 2010, after a courageous twelve-year battle with breast cancer. Kim was born May 25, 1956, to George and Darline Brent, in Portland, OR. The family lived in Medford, OR until Kim was eight years old, when they moved to Edmonds, WA. She graduated from Woodway High School in 1974. She attended the University of California Santa Barbara, where she earned a double major in History and Communications in 1979. Following graduation, Kim moved to Washington, D.C., to become a legislative aide for a California congressman. After two years in D.C., Kim returned to Edmonds, where she taught journalism and edited the newspaper at Edmonds Community College. She then went on to work at KIRO TV as a copy editor. In 1986, she returned to school, and was working on a Master of Public Administration degree at the University of Washington when she met her future husband, Barry Tookey. While at the UW, she interned with Seattle City Light as a technical writer and was hired to develop programs for the City of Seattle and the Bellevue Police Department. Kim and Barry married in 1989 and lived in Edmonds, where their daughter Marissa was born in 1991. Kims greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. She loved writing, gardening, painting, and trips to Cannon Beach, OR. Kim had an infectious smile and fun personality; she made friends wherever she went. She was a very generous and loving person, always willing to help those less fortunate. Kim is survived by her husband Barry; daughter Marissa; parents George and Darline Brent, of Edmonds; sister Sue Anne, of Seattle; brother Mark of Plain, WA; brother Jason and sister-in-law Anne of San Pedro, CA; nieces Alex, Olivia, Isabel, and nephew Daniel. Please join the family for a celebration of Kims life at 3:00 p.m., Sept. 14, 2010, at the Edmonds United Methodist Church, 828 Caspers Street, Edmonds, WA. Announcement: In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made in Kims honor to Heifer International.
