Kimberly Jeanne (Metsker) Whitney July 22, 1954 – February 11, 2014 Our beloved Kim passed on to eternal life February 11th after a courageous battle with cancer, exhibiting the grace and faith with which she lived her life. She was born July 22, 1954 in Tacoma, WA to Thomas and Patricia Metsker and raised in Gig Harbor, graduating from Peninsula High School, class of ’72. She joined two of her brothers, Mark and Thad, at the University of Puget Sound, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. Kim was the lead cartographer for Metsker Map Company and had an amazing ability to make her printed words look like they came off a typewriter. A talented artist and beautiful skier, Kim spent lots of time at the family cabin at White Pass and on the waters of the Puget Sound. She charmed us with her radiant smile and infectious laugh. Kim married Wally Whitney on September 26, 1987 at the Starlite chapel in Reno Nevada. Kim joined Wally in his passion for hunting, where they often spent up to two weeks at a time camping in the woods. She loved their time together in the outdoors including numerous trips to Ocean Shores. Kim became a member of Calvary Community church where she made several friends from the groups she was involved in such as “Hope”, Sisterhood, and seniors on the move. Many of these friend joined Kim in their favorite outings to dinner and a movie. Kim is survived by her children and grand-children by marriage, who she loved. They include Kirk (Rachael), Kristi, Kimberly (Vic) and their children, Jessica, Brian, Riley, Jacob, and Kalob. Survivors also include brothers, Mark Metsker (Ellen), Thad Metsker (Sandi), and Ty Metsker; nephews and nieces, Matthew Metsker, Marcail Hoag, Ky Metsker, and Amanda Fulton; an uncle and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Whitney, and more recently, her parents. The family wishes to thank Rainier Vista nursing home, doctor’s Sean Stout, Sheri Wages, and Sibel Blau for their excellent care and all the wonderful people who provided support to the family over the last year. Remembrances may be made to the Calvary Community Church in Kim’s name. Please join the family in a celebration of Kim’s life, Friday, February 21st at 2:00 pm at Calvary Community Church, 15116 Gary St. E., Sumner, WA. Reception to follow.
