Kris Edward Gormley
April 2nd, 1951 - August 5th, 2015
The world lost a great man on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 when Kris Gormley, age 64, of Greeley, died in his home of pancreatic cancer. Born in Greeley on April 2, 1951, Kris attended College High School where he wrestled and played football. On February 4, 1969, he married the love of his life, Cindy McBride. They were best friends, and their special love continued every day throughout their 46 years of marriage. Kris’ family was at the core of his heart, especially his three grandkids, Hunter, Spencer and Lila, whom he never missed the opportunity to spoil. In 1971 Kris began a four year apprenticeship at Home Light & Power (now Xcel Energy). He became a Journeyman Lineman, and proudly worked in this difficult and dangerous profession for the next 36 years. He loved his job, and his crazy lineman buddies meant the world to him. Being a lifelong sports fan, Kris coached his son, Jamie, in little league baseball for many years and cheered for his daughter, Jill, during countless swim meets. He was so very proud of his kids, and felt they were the greatest accomplishment of his life. He was a life long Bronco fan and loved watching the games with great friends. Kris spent many hours at Work Out West, socializing with friends and apparently managing to fit in some exercise too. Kris was the instigator of good times, had a smile that could light up a room and a kind word for everyone. Kris was a true friend, a man of his word, and genuinely lived his faith every day. Kris is survived by his wife, Cindy; daughter, Jill (Bret) Staples of Saline, MI; son, Jamie (Julie) Gormley of Fort Collins as well as his grandchildren, Hunter and Spencer Staples and Lila Gormley; his father, Ed Gormley; and brother, Steve Gormley, both of Greeley; sisters and brothers-in-laws, Kathy Kyne, Janet (Danny) Gibbs, Dave McBride, and Mike Kyne; extended family in Switzerland; and many special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; mother, Elsy Gormley; father and mother-in-law, Donald and Greta McBride, and sister-in-law, Char McBride. He will also be missed by his countless friends. Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, August 10, 2015 at Greeley Wesleyan Church, 3600 W. 22nd Street. Memorial contributions may be made to "The Kris Gormley Memorial Fund” c/o Adamson Funeral & Cremation Services, 2000 47th Avenue, Greeley, CO 80634 to honor his special love for kids and bring smiles to the children of Colorado. Condolences may be sent to the family at adamsonchapels.com.
