Bastas, Kyle A., 15, of Clearwater, FL, died Thursday, June 21, 2012, peacefully in his sleep at home. Born in Tampa, FL, Kyle was a high honors student at Shorecrest Preparatory School. He played clarinet in the school band and was a member of the Jr. Varsity basketball team. Kyle was a member of Shorecrest's inaugural Varsity bowling team and was known as "Mr. Consistent" to his teammates. He was especially proud that his team went to the 2012 State Bowling Finals. In addition to his other school activities, Kyle also represented Shorecrest at the State Finals of the National Geography Bee as well as the Pinellas County History Fair. Kyle was a tutor for the after school program and volunteered as an assistant for the Lower Division intramural football program. Outside of school, Kyle was a member of the Saturday Junior Scratch Bowling League at Sunrise Lanes. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and served as a teen representative on the church council. He also volunteered as a Faith Formation Assistant. Additionally, Kyle volunteered at the Isla Del Sol summer camp program. He is survived by his parents, Elizabeth "Beth" Bastas and Christopher "Chris" Bastas, as well as his sister, Kimberly Bastas, all of Clearwater, FL; his maternal grandparents, John and Carole Friedman of Palm Harbor, FL; paternal grandparents, Dennis and Mary Jane Bastas of Des Plaines, IL; and his maternal great grandfather, Rudolph Roseman of Safety Harbor, FL. He is also survived by his uncle, Doug Friedman of Port Washington, NY; his uncle and aunt, Steven and Amy Bastas of Elk Grove, IL; uncle and aunt, Steven and Denise Segerian; uncle and aunt, Michael and Elizabeth Martinski of Roselle, IL; and his aunt, Roseann Torraco of Melrose Park, IL. Kyle is also survived by several cousins, Lauren Friedman and Nicole Friedman, both of Port Washington, NY; Francesca Segerian and Elena Segerian, both of Plainfield, IL; Ashley Martinski and Nicholas Martinski, both of Roselle, IL; and Marina Bastas and Angelo Bastas, both of Elk Grove, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations in Kyle's memory to All Children's Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 3142, St. Petersburg, Florida 33731-9952.
