On March 23, 2014 Lane Shelby Bastian departed this life, returning to the presence of his Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Lane was born on October 17, 1994 in Englewood, Colorado and spent his life enjoying the outdoors, especially hunting and snowboarding. He recently became AIARE Avalanche Level 1 certified allowing him to rescue avalanche victims, perform snow stability tests, assess conditions and routing and travel techniques and provide Becon use. Lane's love for his family and friends was evident everyday. His hugs, laughs and smiles were contagious, and he had a way of making people feel loved and safe. His nieces think the world of him, and love to talk about experiences they had with him! Lane will be remembered for his quiet, gentle soul, his kind and thoughtful actions, creative and big ideas and his willingness to search out ways to help others. He had charity; the pure love of Christ. Lane was a talented athlete and excelled in both football and wrestling. He earned his Eagle Scout by working with the Larkspur Fire Department designing fire safety pamphlets, and then organizing and distributing them throughout the Larkspur, Colorado area. Lane also enjoyed serving in the Denver, CO LDS temple as a support worker. Lane is preceded in death by his grandfather Shelby Whaley, uncle Kelly Bastian and cousin Kyle Bastian. He is survived by his parents Rock and Melanie Bastian (Whaley), Jessica and Daniel Wood (sister and brother-in-law), Mckenzie, Abigail, and Katherine Wood (nieces), Max Bastian (brother), Spencer and Kylynn Bastian (brother and sister-in-law), Bree Bastian (sister), Denise Whaley (grandmother), Max and Yvonne Bastian (grandparents) and numerous wonderful aunts, uncles and cousins. We love and miss Lane so much, but know that we will see him again and that our family can be together forever. There will be a viewing held on Friday, March 28, 2014 from 5:00-7:00pm. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 11:00am with a viewing one hour prior to the Funeral Service. Both the viewing and the Funeral Service will be held at the LDS Church - Plum Creek Building, 950 Plum Creek Boulevard, Castle Rock, CO 80104. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the General Missionary fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Days Saints or to the ward missionary fund of the Perry Park Ward. Donations to the ward missionary fund can be annotated with Lane's name on the donation slip.
