Larry M. Arpan

September 13th, 2010

Surrounded by his beloved family, Larry M. Arpan died peacefully from complications due to pancreatic cancer. Larry faced his cancer with the same courage, determination, and wit that he embraced every day of his life. Larry was born in Spearfish, S.D., and spent his youth in South Dakota and Montana. After graduating from Billings Senior High School, he received a Bachelor of Science in business administration from the University of Denver. For many years Larry was an executive in the banking industry, then formed his own company, West Coast Equity, in 1990. Larry and his wife of 47 years, Roberta, were fortunate to spend the last 12 years dividing their time between Portland and Sun Lakes, Ariz., where they have spent their retirement enjoying hiking, biking, tennis, golfing, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Larry’s mother, Maxine Schindele, preceded him in death. Still living to cherish Larry’s memory are his wife, Roberta; son, Scott Arpan (Cheryl); daughter, Laura Lilliebjerg (Erik); grandchildren, Christopher, Riis, Jamie, and Teagan; and stepfather, Miles Schindele. A celebration of Larry's life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 24, 2010, in the First Unitarian Church of Portland. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to PanCan.org.
