On May 1, 2017 Larry Brison Gaines, 69, moved to his heavenly home, to live with his Lord and Savior and his beloved Crystal Gaines after finishing his battle with cancer. Larry is survived by his daughter, Angela "Angie" Greeson, two grandsons Stefan and Bryson Greeson, who were the loves of his life, sister Myra Jo Owens and brother Doug Gaines. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Crystal "Crystie" Gaines, parents L.B. and Evelyn Gaines, and sister Merle Gaines Whitley. He graduated from Northeast Guilford High School in 1966. He then served our country through the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. Larry was seriously wounded in battle and received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for his heroism. Larry was a very proud Veteran. He was retired from the City of Greensboro where he worked in the Parks & Recreation Dept. and was a supporter of Sanctuary House. Larry was a social, active man who loved Duke, playing golf and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle until his health prevented this. He loved Monroeton Golf Club and playing golf with his friends. He enjoyed the comradery at the "STUMP OF WISDOM" and his special friendship and bond with Eddie Weaver. Larry can be described in two words, "A CHARACTER", and if you knew him, then you know. Our family would like to thank Dr. Boris M. Darovsky and his staff for their caring and kindness during his treatment at Novant Health Oncology in Eden, NC and Hospice of Greensboro, Beacon Place. Also Dr. Carb for his friendship and extra care for Larry during this battle, and a special thank you to Clarence Lunsford, a best friend that was there everyday until the end. A funeral service will be held Saturday May 6, 11:00 am at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in Lakeview Memorial Park with full military honors. Visitation will be held Friday evening 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Beacon Place of Greensboro: 2502 Summit Ave, Greensboro, NC 27405. Online condolences can be made at www.lambethtroxlerfuneralhome.com.
