Larry Lee Griep

Obituary Larry Lee Griep, age 67, passed away on Thursday, December 27th, 2018 in Monterey, California. Larry was born on January 2, 1951 in Woodland, California to Grace Elizabeth Griep (Enhelder) and H. Edwin Griep. Larry attended Woodland High School followed by over 50 years of work in the automotive industry, eventually opening his own machinist shop in Monterey, California. Larry married his high school sweetheart, and love of his life, Judy Elaine Crim on January 22, 1970 in Woodland, California. Together they had four sons and one daughter. Larry is survived by his wife Judy Griep, his five children, Brian Griep (Amber), Leslie Griep (David), Eric Griep (Rosalind), Justin Griep, Ryan Griep (Cori), his 12 grandchildren and his siblings Daniel Griep, Nancy Griep-Brabec and Carolyn Griep-Holliday. Larry was preceded in death by his mother Grace, father Edwin and brother, Robert Allen Griep (Bobby). Larry passed away peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his loving family. He fought early onset Alzheimer’s for several years, but is now free of pain and discomfort. He was the kindest, gentlest, most humble, and hardest working son, brother, husband, father and friend. He spent many long, dark nights working on other people’s vehicles leaving his work obligations to follow. He could fix anything and loved to use his hands to help others. He never passed a stranded motorist, or a person or animal in need. He had a trademark smile and wasn’t afraid to show it. He was a quiet man, but a deep thinker. He loved everything on wheels and tried to collect as many of them as possible. Old cars, long drives, trains and tinkering on anything and everything were his passions. His love of the Lord guided all he did, and everything he was. He truly gave everything to the Lord, living the moral of his favorite biblical lesson, The Pineapple Story. His children remember Larry reading them this story and instilling this value in them from a young age. There will be a memorial service for Larry on Saturday, January 26th, 2019 at 2pm at Salinas Valley Community Church (368 San Juan Grade Rd, Salinas, CA).
