Larry Bruce McGoldrick
August 10th, 1933 - May 10th, 2017
Larry Bruce McGoldrick passed away on May 10, 2017 at the age of 83.He was born on August 11, 1933 in Seattle to Pearl Carol MGoldrick (McKechnie) and Charles Emmett McGoldrick. Larry is the oldest of their 3 children. He has a sister, June and a brother, Steve. He grew up in the NW but lived most of his childhood in north King County. Larry has always loved sports and played football on the high school team for Edmonds High School. Two life changing events happened to him while going to Edmonds High School; the first was he joined the Marine Corps Reserves and secondly he met his future wife, Hazel. Before finishing high school he was called to active duty by the Marine Corps. As a very young Marine he was sent overseas to fight in the Korean War. After being there almost a year they found out he was underage so they sent him to Japan until he had his birthday and then they sent him back to complete his tour of 18 months in Korea. He was fortunate to only come home with frostbite from the war; but upon his return home to Washington State Larry and several other Marines were in a car accident, this left him with some metal under his skin as a reminder of that day. Finally back home again, he and the love of his life, Hazel Nickerson were married on June 2, 1952 by the Justice of Peace in King County. Hazel passed away a month prior to their 59 wedding anniversary. Larry began a career in working with produce not long after they were married. Soon he had worked his way up to being a Produce Manager. He was a hard worker and took great pride in his work. His displays of fruit and veges were a work of art. He was noted in an article in the Everett Herald as being very friendly and helpful to all his customers. After many years of working with produce he wanted to be his own boss and he bought a small grocery store in Lake Stevens. Larry and his wife ran the store, HL Super Market but with a weak economy they sold the business after 4 years of hard work. The only thing they walked away with from this adventure was their son-in-law, Norman. Larry then went to work for Market Place and worked in the produce department until he retired. After retiring, Larry loved to take trips with his wife Hazel and their dog Sasha. One of his favorite places to go was the Oregon Coast. He loved going to the beach. When he wasnt traveling he loved to watch sports (especially the Seahawks), along with following the money market and weather. You could ask him anything about these topics and he could tell you what you wanted to know as he was always current with what was going on. He enjoyed eating out too, with family and friends. His loved to go out to breakfast the best, but one of his favorite restaurants to have lunch at was Anthonys Beach Caf in Edmonds (salt water, ferries and clam chowder what more could he ask for?). Larry also liked going to family gatherings where there were lots of homemade goodies to eat! He always enjoyed good food.Larry is preceded in death by his loving wife but is survived by his sister June Ingham and brother Steve McGoldrick; his two children, Linda Lindstrand and Robert McGoldrick; four grandchildren: Erica Durban, James Lindstrand, Kim McGoldrick, Karen Polich; and 15 great-grandchildren. A Memorial is scheduled for Larry on Friday, August 25, from 10:30 to 11:30am, at Holyrood Cemetery, 205 NE 205 St., Shoreline, WA. A recn to follow see program. Everyone is welcome to attend and celebrate Larrys life.
