Larry Smith

Larry Lee Smith 83, passed away at home in Loveland, Colorado, on Friday, April 27th, 2012, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Larry was born on August 18th, 1928, in Lawrence, Kansas, to Cecil and Mildred Smith. Larry graduated from Highland Park High School in Topeka, Kansas, and went on to college at Washburn University in Topeka. He met Arlene Snell in high school, and they were married September 10th, 1948. Larry joined the US Army and served stateside during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge from the Army, he finished his college studies atWashburnUniversity. He worked for Cessna aircraft inWichita. Larry and Arlene had two daughters, Tonia and Shari while inWichita. In the late ‘60’s, they moved toAlbuquerque,New Mexico, where he worked for the Federal Government. Later, they moved toLos Alamos, and Larry worked as a contracts administrator for the Department of Energy. He retired from that position in 1992, and they moved to Paradise Hills inAlbuquerque. Larry and Arlene were members of theSt. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Rio Rancho. They moved toLoveland,Colorado, in 2009, to be closer to grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Larry is survived by his wife, Arlene B. Smith, daughters Tonia L. Price (David M.) of Loveland, CO, and Shari E. Hoyt (David R.) of Allen, TX, grandsons Joshua Price of Fort Collins, CO, Tyler Price of Denver, CO, Zachary Hoyt of Allen, TX, granddaughterTraci Estradaof Loveland, CO, great-granddaughters Kiyana Price, Shailee Estrada, and Kaleah Estrada of Loveland, CO, brothers Galen Smith of Xenia, OH, and Karl Smith of Topeka, KS. Services and burial will be at Vista Verde Memorial Park, Sara Chapel, 4310 Sara Rd, Rio Rancho, New Mexico, on Tuesday, May 15th at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association c/o Carroll-Lewellen Funeral & Cremation Services.
