Laura "Gail" McDougall was born on August 14, 1954 at the Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and passed away August 10, 2009 from an aneurysm. Her first three years of schooling were at the Glamorgan Elementary School in Calgary. In her fourth year the family moved to Freeport, Grand Bahama Island, Bahamas. She attended school in the Bahamas from Grade 4 through 12. Freeport was a new town started in 1958 "" where everyone was a foreigner. The kids in the school were from every nationality in the world. It was like the United Nations. After graduating from Freeport High School she went to Pueblo, Mexico for 2 semesters in Economics. When she left Mexico she came to Phoenix where she immediately got a waitress job at Sambo"s. She loved people and waitressing and worked at most of the main restaurants in the valley ie: Red Lobster, Denny"s, Spaghetti Co., Bill Johnson"s Big Apple, Citrus CafÁ© and Garcias. Her worst experience while waitressing was when she spilled grits and eggs on a man"s head. Gail learned to drive in an Austin Mini station wagon with 4 under the hood and 4 on the floor. She drove the daylights out of that car. Her first car was a Camero, which was sold for parts in Mexico by the people who stole it. The next one was a maroon Maverick (who a friend said he couldn"t ride across town in.) She however drove to Florida, up the East Coast to Canada and then all the way across Canada and back to Arizona in it. Gail went to Toastmasters in both Houston and Phoenix. Then she decided to try out for stand up comedy. She really enjoyed performing in clubs and many of you came to see her. When waitressing took a toll on her physically, she learned coding on the job at various medical insurance companies, Mercy Care, Centrum Health Care, and Native Air Ambulance, where she worked until her passing. Gail worked at Lamson College teaching coding on a part time basis for a few years. She often had two jobs on the go. Gail was a caring person. She loved her family, friends, and cats. She was a great asset to her Mom and Ned in the last few years, and was devastated by Ned"s passing in 2007. Gail is survived by her mother Irene, her father Jim, brother Ross (Jeanne), sister Diana, niece and nephew Jenna and Jeff and her special cat, "The Captain". She is also survived by aunts, uncles and cousins. Gail continued to help people after her passing. Her organs were donated and four people received the gift of life. Cremation followed. At Gail"s request no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Friends for Life (A "no kill" animal shelter) 143 W. Vaughn Ave. Gilbert, AZ 85233 (480) 497-8296
