Laurance Vincent Gill Resident of Martinez June 1, 1930 January 31, 2014 Laurance "Larry" Gill passed away peacefully on January 31 after an extended illness. Larry was born and raised in San Francisco. After serving in the Navy, he began a 38-year career with Pacific Bell before marrying the love of his life, Marcille, in 1956 and raising five children. He became a parishioner at Christ the King Catholic Church in Pleasant Hill in 1961, and served for many years as a volunteer for the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was a passionate fan of both the S.F. Giants and 49ers, and attended as many 49er games as he could for almost 40 years. Above all else, Larrys favorite moments were spent with his family, and he is remembered fondly as a master storyteller. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, James and Veronica Gill; his brother, James Gill, S.J.; his sister, Loretta Gill; and his grandson, Thomas Conner. Larry is survived by his loving wife, Marcille; children Kathleen (Jay) Conner of Roseville; James (Michelle) Gill of Concord; Dianne Wilson of Tracy; John (Lisa) Gill of Martinez; and Steven (Michelle) Gill of Roseville, as well as 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Mary (Dan) Jennings of Houston; brother-in-law and wife, Donn and Pat Paulson of Santa Rosa; brother-in-law, Gary Paulson of Eugene, Oregon; and 11 nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation at 6 p.m. and vigil service at 7 p.m. at Oak Park Hills Chapel, 3111 North Main Street, Walnut Creek on Wednesday, February 5. A funeral mass will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church, 199 Brandon Road, Pleasant Hill at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 6, followed immediately by a burial service at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Lafayette. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in Larrys memory to the Christ the King St. Vincent de Paul Society or to Hospice of the East Bay.
