LaVera W. Hansen passed away peacefully on June 9, 2024 at the age of 92 in Laguna Niguel, CA. LaVera is survived by her son Randy Hansen, Daughter-in-law Kimberly, daughter Barbara Hansen Niksch, son-in-law Robert Ott, daughter-in-law Kathy Murray, 7 grandchildren (Jessica, Justin, Travis, Ashley, Mayleea, Eliana, and Chloe), 8 great-grandchildren (Rosaline, Sammie, TJ, Ava, Silas, Madisen, Zayne and Samuel) and her two 15-year-old Pomeranians (Sierra & Piper). She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Vance L. Hansen, her son Samuel Hansen, five brothers and one sister.

LaVera was born in Paul’s Valley, Oklahoma in 1932. Her family moved west, and she lived in several places in Washington State and northern California while growing up. She was working at McClellan Air Force Base when she met and soon married her husband, Vance. They lived in Chico, CA, China Lake, CA, Las Vegas, NV and finally built their mountain dream home in Lake Almanor, CA. In 2018, she moved to southern California to be closer to her daughter, Barbara.

LaVera loved the Lord, her family, her dogs, gardening, sewing, watching birds, painting, cooking, cake decorating, crocheting, and many other arts and craft projects. She was very creative and enjoyed making gifts for others. She was also very proud of her American Indian Heritage (Choctaw and Chickasaw). She held several positions in retail, banking and with a grocery store.

As a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother she was dearly loved and will be missed. We are comforted to know she is at peace and with the Lord.

Donations can be made in her honor to the Chahta Foundation (a charity devoted to education and wellness of Choctaw Indians).

The funeral service for LaVera will be held at Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church (750 Moss Avenue, Chico, CA) on Friday, June 21, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with a committal service at Glen Oaks Memorial Park (11115 Midway, Chico).
