Lavina Marie Fehlman

Lavina Marie Fehlman, 75, of Ontario and Newport, OR, passed away June 23, 2014, due to complications of a stroke. A visitation will be held from 4 p.m.-7 p.m., Tuesday, July 1st at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 2nd at Payette Methodist Church. Lavina was born in Weiser, ID on Aug. 31, 1938 to Harvey and Cleo Johnson. In her younger years they resided at Mann's Creek near Weiser. She worked hard with her Dad "being the boy he never had." She graduated from Payette High School in 1956. She married Ronald Fehlman March 17, 1957. To this union they added three children; Robert, Richard and Rhonda. They later divorced but maintained a great relationship. Lavina worked as a Dispatcher for Ontario Police Dept., starting in 1963 and retiring in 1988. She loved her career at the police dept. and loved the people she worked with. After retirement she worked at Albertsons; this was so she could stay connected to her community. Since 2011 she has been sharing life with her adoring friend, Shirlie Davidson, spending time with friends and family in Newport and the Ontario area. She was a hard worker and an upstanding citizen, and had a strong sense of right and wrong. She was a take charge kind of lady and if a job needed done she was your gal, you could always count on her. Lavina was also incredibly compassionate and loyal. She could tell the best stories and would often get so tickled in the middle of the story she would have to take a minute to laugh before she could continue. She had a contagious laugh and a great personality. She loved her family, friends and community, and she truly didn't know a stranger! She enjoyed watching sports of all levels from little league to professional, and she never missed a sporting event her kids and grandkids were involved in. Lavina kept a tight schedule that usually revolved around Days of Our Lives and regular trips to the beauty parlor. Lavina is survived by Shirlie Davidson of Newport, OR; her children Robert (Gail) of Nyssa, OR, Richard of Nampa, ID and Rhonda LaCasse of Eagle, ID; grandchildren, Sara and Travis Sapp and Hank and Ashley Fehlman; great grandchildren, Michael, Lauren and Elizabeth Sapp; "Sister" Marvel McKean of Payette; Aunt Betty Manser of Ontario, OR and Esther Rupp of Oregon Slope, OR and Bethal Robinson of Baker City, OR; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends. Lavina is preceded in death by her parents Harvey and Cleo Johnson; devoted friend Leo Christenson; and her sister Joyce Bounds.
