Lawrence John Baskett
May 15th, 1928 - December 24th, 2018
The Man, the Myth, the Legend. Lawrence died December 24, 2018 while surrounded by his wife, Dolores and family. Lawrence was born in Tacoma(Midland), WA in his Gramma and Grampa’s house May 15, 1928. Growing up in Midland, Lawrence went to Lincoln High School, worked as a box boy at Safeway, and a mechanic at Jordan’s Bakery. During WWII Lawrence joined the war effort and worked in the shipyards as a carpenter, while building Naval minesweepers. After the war, Lawrence worked as a cement mason for 47 years. He was a 50 year member of Operative Plasterers’ and Cement Masons ’Union. Lawrence worked as an equipment operator at Washington State Fair for 20 years. He married his sweetheart, Dolores Elaine Yost on Sept 4, 1948 in Tacoma, WA. Together they raised 5 children: Kent Baskett(Karen), Shiela Off (Doug), Teresa Harkins(Ed), Glen Baskett(Dodie Cooper),Ryan Baskett(Christy) He is a grandfather of 11 grandchildren: Kalen Baskett, Kyle Baskett ,Doug Off, Jr, Travis Off, Grady Off ,Jake Rich, Chelsey Baskett, Ian Harkins, Riley Harkins, Chris Wodja, Todd Wodja and 8 great-grandchildren:Kelsie Baskett, Garrett Baskett, Henry Off, Beckham Off,and one on the way, Cory Wodja, Zoe Wodja, James Wodja, Thomas Wodja. Lawrence was preceeded in death by his Father, John and Mother, Mary Baskett and brother, Theodore Baskett. He also leaves behind his sister, Louise James. He will be greatly missed by all, especially by his precious family, but we know there are endless piles of wood to chop , lawns to mow, cows to feed, roads to grade, and babies to hold as he continues his work on the other side. Services will be January 2, 2019 at 10am Holy Disciples Catholic Church, 10425 187th St E, Puyallup, WA 98374 In Lieu of Flowers, Donations can be made to Holy Disciples Catholic Church Food Bank
