Lawrence "Mike" Michael Britt
December 4th, 1954 - May 17th, 2024
Lawrence Michael "Mike" Britt passed away peacefully on May 17, 2024, following a 10 - month battle with cancer. Surviving are his wife and best friend of 33+ years, Mary Gail Britt and their son, Devin Britt. Additional survivors include his daughter, Elizabeth Wood, his brother Terry Britt, his uncles, Jerry Britt and Joseph O'Brien, mother-in-law, Alice Hinkley, brother-in-law, Jeff Hinkley (Lesley), nieces and nephews, cousins and several special long-time friends. He was proceeded in death by his father, Lawrence "Larry" Britt, stepmother, Judi Britt, father-in-law, Richard Hinkley, his son, Benjamin Britt and brothers Patrick Britt and Thomas Britt. He was also predeceased by his beloved grandmother, Bernice Britt and his favorite aunt, Rita O'Brien. Mike was born in Davenport, Iowa on December 4, 1954. He attended Assumption High School and St. Ambrose University. He was transfered to the Atlanta, GA metro area in the mid 1980's. Mike's entire career was spent in logistics and transportation management, and he retired from full time work in 2018. He and his wife recently relocated and retired in Latitude Margaritaville - Hilton Head in Hardeeville, SC. Mike was known for his love and knowledge of sports, particularly baseball. He was a huge fan of the Atlanta Braves, University of Georgia football and Iowa Hawkeye sports. Mike had an extremely dry sense of humor and loved telling stories and putting his own spin on things making people laugh. He loved to cook and grill, often cooking for large groups of friends and family. Mike loved the beach and may vacations were spent on various Florida beaches in the panhandle. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mike's memory to Hospice Care of the Lowcountry in Bluffton, SC or Raskel's Rescue in Hardeeville, SC. There will be no formal service per Mike's request. A small family prayer and scripture reading will be held in Mary Gail and Mike's home by the hospice chaplain of Hospice Care of the Lowcountry. A Celebration of Life will be announced in the future for friends and family in Buford, GA.
