Lawrence E. Henderson, Jr. Lawrence E. Henderson (Larry) passed away peacefully in Las Vegas, Nevada at the age of 88 on January 21, 2021. Larry is the oldest son of Lawrence E. Henderson, Sr. and Margaret Henderson. Larry was born in Seattle, Washington and grew up in the Queen Anne neighborhood. Larry attended Frantz Coe Elementary School where he played third base for the City Championship softball team and was active in the Boys Club. Larry attended Queen Anne High, was on the golf team and participated in a number of theatrical productions. He was in high school when he met his wife of 63 years, Marion. Following graduation Larry attended University of Washington for 4 years pledging Kappa Sigma Fraternity and playing on the golf team making many life-long friends. Larry’s youngest son, Jim, would follow his legacy, also pledging Kappa Sigma at the University of Idaho. Following college Larry was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army and served two years active duty in Pirmasens, Germany as a member of the 59th Field Artillery Battalion, where he was Commander of a 280 mm Gun Platoon. Larry was discharged from the Army Reserves with the rank of Captain. Upon returning to the States, he married his high school sweetheart in May, 1957 and the two would be together until Marion’s death in September, 2020. They made their first home in Seattle where Larry worked with Dunn Bradstreet, Inc., and Seattle Master Builders’ Association . The couple had three children in Seattle – John, Katherine (Kay) and Jim. The two relocated to Boise, Idaho in 1971 where Larry was offered employment with the Federal Small Business Administration. He remained with that Agency for 25 years, retiring as Regional Deputy Director. Larry was an avid golfer – playing nearly every weekend and participating in many tournaments, including a Father-Daughter Open. Following many years in Boise, Larry and Marion moved to Las Vegas in 2013 to be near son Jim. The couple enjoyed their time in Vegas but unfortunately ill health limited Larry’s ability to engage in physical activities such as golfing. Larry and Marion would dine out often and gambled at their favorite neighborhood pubs and casinos. They never missed a Seattle Seahawks game on television and were also avid fans of the Mariners and Boise State Broncos. Following Marion’s death Larry was cared for by eldest son John and fiancé Julia in their family home. This allowed Larry to be in familiar and supportive surroundings in his final days. Larry was baptized into the Catholic Church later in life which became a source of great comfort and peace. Larry is survived by his younger brother, David (Lois), sons John and Jim (Darlyn), daughter Kay Lyon (Ken) and granddaughters Sydney Marie and Hazel (Madison) Barr. He will be missed for his gift of gab, the advice given when we were growing up, the love he showed his grandchildren, the support and encouragement he provided. He will be remembered for his good-natured teasing, turkey and stuffing, and quick wit. The sound of his laughter was one of the best things he gave us. While the disease of dementia took some of what we loved about our Dad, it left enough to know he always loved us. Larry will be inurned with his beloved wife Marion at Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, 10100 N. Horseshoe Bend Road, Boise, Idaho February 23, 2021 at 2:00 p.m.. In lieu of flowers, the Family is requesting donations be made to the Kappa Sigma Endowment Fund (ef.kappasigman.org) 1610 Scottsdale Road, Charlottesville, VA 22902. Be at peace Papa – enjoy your “final final”.
