Lawrence C Lucas

Lawrence Lucas, age 88, of Mountain Home passed away at the Boise VA Hospital on Sunday, January 8, 2023. A memorial service will be held at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel on Friday, January 20, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. Lawrence was born on February 12, 1934, in Beardsley, Minnesota. He moved with his family to Soap Lake, Washington at the age of ten. Lawrence would go on to join the United States Air Force at the age of 17 where he served as a tail gunner on a B-29 in the Korean War. Lawrence married the love of his life Patricia Shetterly on January 30, 1955. After leaving the service, the couple settled in Southern California where he received his associates degree from Long Beach City College. He became an aerospace engineer working for McDonald Douglas and Litton Industries for 20 years. He also joined the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office for several years before moving his family to Klamath Falls, Oregon where he became a small business owner. Lawrence enjoyed taking his family for camping throughout California and Mexico, playing basketball with his team, and hunting. In 1991, he moved to Mountain Home where he and Patricia bought a convenience store that they operated until retirement. Lawrence spent his retirement becoming an avid bow hunter, fishing, and camping. You would find him at the sidelines of his grandchildren’s sporting events whenever possible. Lawrence is survived by his wife of 68 years, Patricia Lucas; his five children, Michael Lucas of Mountain Home, Lesley Lucas of Mountain Home, Lisa Tanner of Kerrville, Texas, Mark Lucas of Honolulu, Hawaii and Matthew Lucas of Jerome, Idaho; 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; brothers, Laverne Lucas of Michigan, and Duane Lucas of Texas. Lawrence is preceded in death by both of his parents Michael and Christine Lucas, brother Milo Lucas and sisters Gen Bier, Delores Haanan, Poly Pruden, Gladys Graham, Irene Webley, and Catherine Merrill.

Our funeral home opened in 2005 when Jerry and Janette Rost purchased the business. We’ve continued to grow along with Mountain Home. Jerry’s career began more than fifty years ago in Boise, and along the way, he acquired an 1897 horse-drawn funeral carriage, which we proudly display in our facility....
