Lawrence Lee Stone
November 20th, 1942 - March 15th, 2018
Larry was born on November 20, 1942 in Independence, MO. He was the son of Dorvin Ray and Geraldine DeVinna Stone and brother to Donald Ray Stone. It was a fun and loving family. Great parents; great brother and he had fond memories of his childhood. A few natural sibling skirmishes broke out, but nothing epic and they made for funny stories. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Marty, and his son, Dennis, daughters Lora Lee and Julieanne and step-daughter, Kimberly Dawn. He was the proud grandfather of 4. He was a patient, fun and playful grandfather who loved to tease, guide and protect. Larry was eternally grateful that his Dad made the wise decision to move out west. They lived in Hayward, CA and then moved to Oregon. He graduated from South Salem High in 1960. He went to work for Boise Cascade Corp in Salem and continued with the company at Research on Swan Island, retiring after 33 years. Larry had a passion for racing that started with joining his dad on dirt bikes roaming the hills and also watching midget car races. He and his brother shared a love of sprint car races and he, Don and Marty followed the circuit whenever possible. He would get very animated when talking about the ‘41 Ford pickup he drove and the escapades he and good friend, Art Young, pulled off during high school. One of his favorites was the two of them sliding down the giant sand dune at Cape Kiwanda in an airplane canopy. Now, more about Larry. He was an exceptional husband, father, brother, brother-in-law, grandfather and friend. Because of his profound sense of humor, generous heart, gentle spirit, kindness and easy laugh, his joy was in the friends he made and valued, holding them close in his heart. Marty, family and friends brought him happiness and they all felt it. His favorite football team, Washington Redskins, often disappointed him, but he remained a true and loyal fan. Larry and Marty enjoyed traveling, visiting friends and every opportunity to be at the beach. They had an enviable marriage sharing a deep love, admiration, respect and passion for each other. The recurring expression of how lucky they were to be in each other’s lives was never taken for granted. To my loving husband: there is a huge void in my heart that will never be filled. I miss you beyond words and the future I was supposed to have with you. I have only sweet memories of bliss while you were in my life and thank you for that gift. Being here is no fun without you. God has another angel in Heaven. Forever my love ~ Marty
