Leah Seamster Materi
March 2nd, 1947 - January 31st, 2016
Leah Seamster Materi was born in Monte Vista, Colorado, March 2, 1947, third child of John and Bonnie Seamster. She attended the Sargent Consolidated school and then Adams State College in Alamosa, CO, and later received an Arts and Religion degree from the Iliff School of Theology in Denver. Her early years were spent as a member of a family involved deeply in farming, school, 4-H and church activities. She served churches in Kansas as a youth minister. In her later years she worked as a care-giver in the Albuquerque area. Leah was involved with the Walk to Emmaus community in New Mexico and Mesa View United Methodist Church in Albuquerque. She is survived by her daughter, Candice Williamson; her eldest sister, Lila Hill and husband Earl; her brother, John Seamster and wife Geraldine; and her younger sister, Aneta Buhl and husband Steve. She also leaves behind a special friend of the family, C. Gopalkrisna and his family. Gopal was an International Farm Youth exchange student from India who spent time with the family as Leah was growing up. Gopal made return visits to the family in later years. Leah passed away suddenly on January 31, 2016. A Memorial Service will be celebrated on Saturday, February 6, 2016, at 10:00 AM, at the Mesa View United Methodist Church, 4701 Montano Road NW, Albuquerque, NM 87120. Memorials may be sent to Sargent Community Church, 6985 N County Road 2E, Monte Vista, CO 81144; or Mesa View United Methodist Church, 4701 Montano Road NW, Albuquerque, NM 87120.
