LEATHA DAVIES A funeral for Leatha Davies, 93, formerly of Chico, will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the Chico Elks Lodge. She died Wednesday, January 18, 2017, in a Roseville care facility. Leatha was born July 21, 1923 in Durham to Frank and Clara Gooch. She attended elementary school in Eureka, CA and Albany, OR, before graduating from Oroville High School, and later from Chico State College. She then worked for several years as an elementary school teacher. In August 1943, she married Don Davies, who preceded her in death in 1993. Following his US Army discharge in 1946, they ultimately settled in Chico, where they raised their family. Leatha later became a real estate broker, assisting her husband in his building business. Don and Leatha loved to travel and enjoyed many trips in the U.S. and abroad during their fifty years of marriage. Leatha is survived by two daughters, Karen Davies of Antelope, CA and Jeanne Cormick of Mill Creek, WA, a son Robert Davies of San Jose, a brother Melvin Gooch of Eugene, OR, and countless friends. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 AM Tuesday at the Chico Elks Lodge, prior to the service. A private interment will follow the service, in Glen Oaks Memorial Park, for family members. Pallbearers will be Donald Gooch, Fred Ryan, Terry Doede, Nels Leen, Jerry Leen, and David Huisman. Arrangements are under the direction of Brusie Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.BrusieFH.com.
