Lee Carter
July 11th, 1937 - December 11th, 2013
Raymond Lee Carter, Sr., 76, of Kingsport, flew away with the angels to Heaven on Wednesday night following a very brief battle with cancer. He was born in Scott County, Virginia and had resided in Kingsport the majority of his life. Lee attended Shoemaker High School. He enlisted in the United States Army with the 111th Light Weapons Infantry and proudly served in the Korean War. Following his service in the United States Army, he enlisted with the United States Army National Guard. Mr. Carter retired from Quebecor Printing as a Trimmer Operator following 37 years of service. He also retired from RR Donnelley in 2009 where he met and worked with some very special friends that were like family to him. He was an avid hunter and loved to fish. Lee was truly an outdoorsman. He especially loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He attended The Promise Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Morgan Carter, Sr. and Dollie Hood Carter; a sister, Ann Stallard; his brother, Morgan Carter, Jr. Lee Carter is survived by his loving wife, Jonelle Gilman Carter; a son, Raymond Lee Carter, Jr. and wife, Freda; his daughter, Sandra Hammonds and husband, Anthony; grandchildren, Amanda Wininger, Laura Bennett, Cody, Ryan and Audrey Hammonds, and Breonna Moles; great grandchildren, Bradlee Wininger, Hillary Wininger, and Emma Bennett; sisters, Nancy Seavers, Linda Bond and husband, Larry; brothers, Murton Carter and wife, Marquita , James Darwin Carter; his hunting and fishing buddy, Hobert Moore along with several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Saturday (December 14, 2013) from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport or friends may also call anytime at the residence of the daughter, Sandra Hammonds, 120 Summerville Farms Court. A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday (December 14, 2013) at 5 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jonathan Lovelace and Associate Pastor Mike Vicars, officiating. Music will be provided by Ben Christian and Sherry Christian. A military graveside service will be conducted by the Hawkins County Color Guard and the TN Army National Guard on Sunday (December 15, 2013) at 11 am at Holston View Cemetery. David Quillen, Jeff Quillen, Cody Dingus, Ryan Hammonds, Tyler Bennett, and Jared Wininger will serve as pallbearers. Family and friends attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Carter family.
