A memorial service for Leila Gallmeier Barnes will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Lexington Presbyterian Church, 246 Barr Road, Lexington, SC 29072. Mrs. Barnes was born on May 19, 1914 in Shakopee, Minnesota. She was the daughter of the late Herman Conrad Gallmeier and Ruth Erickson Gallmeier. She was married for 68 years to the late Rev. Kenneth L. Barnes. Mrs. Barnes was a member of Lexington Presbyterian Church (PCA) for almost 40 years. However, she attended Philadelphia Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Landrum, SC after her husband died in 2009, while living with her son and daughter-in-law. She grew up on a farm in Dalbo, Minnesota, the oldest of three brothers and two sisters. She graduated from Northwestern Bible Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1937. Mrs. Barnes is survived by son, Robert Lee Barnes of Brevard, NC; daughter, Ruth Barnes Kepler of Tampa, FL; son, Randall Thomas Barnes (Mary) of Campobello, SC; son, Rev. Richard Kenneth Barnes (Sharon) of Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada; sister, Velma Brinker of Forest Lake, MN; 14 grandchildren and16 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Philadelphia Presbyterian Church, Missions Fund, P. O. Box 322, Landrum, SC 29356.
