Leland Scott Walton of Hilton Head Island, SC passed away on May 28th, 2024. Born February 26, 1949, in Rocky River, Ohio, he was the son of the late Leland Walton and Kay (Allen) Walton.

During his years growing up in Ohio and attending University School, Scott loved swimming, playing football, and listening to Bob Dylan, Neil Young, the Beatles, and other classic bands of the ’60s while hanging out with his friends. It was in high school that he met his best friend and true love of his life, Barbara Geckler. Although they did not marry until years later in June of 1986.

After high school, Scott attended TCU – Texas Christian University, “The Mighty Horned Frogs”, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He returned to Ohio after graduating and raised his son, Neil Walton, in Bay Village. Scott married his best friend and love of his life, Barbara Geckler, in June of 1986. That same year, he embarked on a 25-year career with PPG Industries managing and collaborating with the engineers in the vehicle paint division. He worked for PPG for the remainder of his working life before retiring and beginning the best part of his life, retirement.

After retiring, Scott and Barb moved to Savannah, GA, and Scott immediately volunteered at the local fire department. He loved driving the big fire truck and was the only one who could back it into the firehouse. Scott and Barb also volunteered at several other local charities including the Humane Society, Kiwanis Club, and the CCA (Coastal Conversation Association) among others.

Scott and Barbara loved to travel and volunteer, but they loved their island, Windswept, in Parry Sound Canada, the most. Warm summer nights listening to the frogs in the frog pond, keeping the pesky black bears out of the trash, enjoying an evening cocktail on “Top of the Rock”, early morning fishing, and entertaining friends and family were the center of their retirement during the summer.

Scott leaves behind his beloved wife Barbara, son Neil Walton, Neil’s wife Tatiana, stepson Sean Reali, Sean’s wife Katie, and their five children: Paige, Victoria, Caitlyn, Carson, and Alexander. We are all going to miss you, Scott…Rest easy.

Instead of flowers, donations can be made to the local Animal Rescue in Savannah, GA, Cleveland, OH, or Hilton Head Island, SC.
