Leola A. Merchant Nov. 19, 1922 - May 13, 2013 Resident Pleasant Hill Lea's husband of 65 years took her by the hand and crossed her Home at age 90. Born on a farm in Minnesota during a snow storm, the doctor traveled by sleigh to deliver her. After graduating from business college, she worked several years before becoming a homemaker. Requests were made for her pies, cakes, and cookies. She made magic with her sewing machine and handmade quilts. Predeceased by her loving husband, Donald Robert Merchant, Jr., daughter, Mary Merchant Huff Burr, and brother, Harry A. Barton. Survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Dennis Sasaki, twin grandchildren, Christopher and Nicole Sasaki of Pleasant Hill. Also survived by her sister, Betty Gabor of Seattle and by her brother's children: Brenda Ropolous, MaryJo Murray, Darcie Donahue, Jim, John, Scott, and Steven Barton. Also survived by Bob's brothers-in-law, nephews, and their families: Henry (Hank) Hansen, Doug and Richard; Cliff Myll, Jeff, Greg, and Don. Her generous loving spirit will be greatly missed. Celebration of Life, Saturday, June 1, 2013, 2 pm, at Hillcrest Congregational Church, 404 Gregory Lane, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523. Donations may be made to Hillcrest Congregational Church.
