A funeral service will be held for Leona Helen Dutro, 87 of Gerber, on Monday, March 31, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Chico. Leona passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2008 at her home. She was born July 20, 1920 to Enoch and Alta Gibson in Hollister, CA. Leona moved to Chico with her family in 1929. She graduated from Chico High School in 1938. That same year she married her high school sweetheart, Raymond Dutro and began their 60 year farming operation together. Leona was involved in many aspects of farming until poor health prevented her from continuing. She had a large extended family and hosted 35 years of family gatherings at her homes in Chico and Gerber or at the family cabin at Lake Almanor. Leona is survived by her husband, Raymond Dutro of Gerber; son, Gary (Chris) Dutro of Red Bluff; daughter, Kathy (Ron) Leger of Durham; three sisters, Myrtle Henthorn of Chico, Lula (Charles) Phillips of Chico and Alta (Wert) Harms of Penryn; one brother, Orris Gibson of Davis; four grandchildren, Stephen, Anne, Suzanne and Brian and five great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CSU Chico College of Agriculture or School of Nursing in care of the Brusie Funeral Home 626 Broadway Chico, CA 95928.
