Leona Pearl McDonald
July 23rd, 1933 - June 17th, 2022
Leona P. McDonald Leona (Lee) McDonald, age 88, passed away Friday, June 17, 2022 surrounded by her family at her home in Denver, Colorado. Leona P. Nichols was born July 23, 1933 in Denver where she called home her entire life. She graduated from South High School in 1951 and shortly thereafter met the love of her life, John (Mac) R. McDonald of Hagan Virginia, who was stationed at Lowry Air Force base. John and Leona wed on September 12, 1952 in Spokane, Washington where John was stationed for a short time. Together they had 2 daughters, Donna and Rebecca. Lee devoted many years to the Girl Scouts, not only as a troop leader but also serving the Denver Girl Scout Council in several different capacities. Leona went on to be a much-loved teacher at Christ the King Lutheran Church preschool for several years before †œretiring†�. She then volunteered at three Denver elementary schools from 1990-2017. She volunteered thousands of hours, and became invaluable to the teachers and children alike. In 2002, Leona earned the President†™s volunteer Service Award for her dedication of numerous volunteer hours to her community schools. Leona also loved dancing. After square dancing for many years with Mac she continued line dancing with her friends at the Littleton Recreation Center. She danced, choreographed, and performed †" even with her oxygen tank on her back. Leona loved flowers, the mountains of Colorado and enjoyed camping and spending time with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband John, and her brave grandson Heath. She is survived by her sister, Margaret Blodgett, daughters, Donna (Kevin) Milner, Rebecca (Jim) Gumm, 2 grandchildren, Ryan and Lorelei and 2 great-grandchildren, Hannah and SallyAnn. Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 23, 2022 at Ft. Logan National Cemetery at 12:00 p.m. If you are planning to attend, please arrive by 11:45 p.m. and line up at Staging Area A.
