Leonard A. Losasso, 96 passed away Weds. Feb 18, 2015. He is lovingly remembered by daughters Dianne, Virginia, Sandi and son Larry, four grand children and six great grand children. Memorial service will be held at Aspen Mortuary, 1350 Simms, Lakewood on Weds. Feb 25th, 10:30 am. The reception will immediately follow at Dino†™s Italian Restaurant. The burial is at 1:30 pm at Mt Olivet Cemetery, 12801 W. 44th Ave, Wheat Ridge. Use the second entrance / straight ahead. A Colorado native, Leonard was born right here in Denver. His parents were true entrepreneurs, dad as a truck farmer and mom as a hairstylist. Leonard helped on the farm and was always excited on sales days to hook up the horse and wagon and take their produce to market just along Cherry Creek which is now lined with homes and businesses. Dad would always take Leonard to breakfast downtown at the Market Lodge, pay 25 cents for a sales stall and when the bell rang at 7am the selling would begin. Leonard†™s mom owned several beauty salons one of which was at 10th & Lincoln. Leonard attended North High and then CSU for a degree in forestry. He then moved to Idaho where he lived in a tent while working for the WPA. He returned to Colorado to major in Industrial Arts where he saw some of the first mechanized tools such as the first engine lathe. He then joined Gardner and Denver Jackhammer company (which still exists), then on to Los Angeles to work for a subcontractor for Lockheed to build the tail wheels and wing camshafts for the P38 airplane for WWII. Some friends visited him in Los Angeles and they all decided to join the Merchant Marines. He was with the Merchant Marines until the end of the war. In 1949, he met and married Betty, raising four children, Larry, Sandi, Dianne and Virginia. After his dad passed away in 1959, the family moved back to Denver to help his mom and to begin anew. After working a short time in an upholstery shop, decided to open his own shop. Like his parents before him, Leonard was born an entrepreneur and didn†™t stop with that one shop. He also owned and operated a motel and Luigi†™s Restaurant on W. Alameda. Later, he met and married Jackie, raising four more children, Bill, Kay, Penny and Wally. Leonard sold his businesses and retired after living in Westminster for 50 years. When he was 94, he moved to an independent senior community with his dog Charlie. The one thing he kept was that original sewing machine that started his first business.
