Leonard Verner Peterson

Leonard V. Peterson, "Papa", 86, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away on the morning of Thursday, September 1, 2011 at Douglas T. Jacobson State Veterans' Home in Port Charlotte. Leonard was born April 21, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan to Harold Verner and Ruth Amanda (nee Nelson) Peterson and moved to Port Charlotte 29 years ago from Michigan. On September 23, 2011, he would have celebrated his 61st year of marriage to his faithful wife, Lorraine. Leonard enjoyed golf at Kingsway Country Club, playing the piano and organ, and family games. He was veteran of WWII serving in the US Marine Corps and also was a member of the American Legion Post #110 in Port Charlotte and attended First Presbyterian Church in Port Charlotte. Papa always loved his family and will be deeply missed by them. Leonard is survived by his loving wife, Lorraine M. (nee Klein) Peterson of Port Charlotte; daughters, Janice L. (Stephen D.) Hanson of Crofton, MD and Karen S. (Richard) Bradshaw of Port Charlotte; grandchildren, Lindsey A. (Hernan G. Sanchez) Hanson and Heather L. (Ryan T.) Arthurton; and step-grandchildren, Kyle R. Bradshaw and Dana N. (Matt Magnolia) Bradshaw. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, September 9, 2011 at Paul Schelm Funeral Home, 12687 SW County Road 769 - Kings Highway in Lake Suzy. Graveside services will be at 1:30PM at Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota.
