Memorial

Obituary Leroy Vincent Hannon, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and devoted husband, departed this world on July 21, 2016, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 84 years old. He was reunited with the love of his life, Marilyn Joann Treiber, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Lynn Goettsch and Kathleen Joann Belyea, sons-in-law, Craig Goettsch and Clark Belyea, grandchildren, Jason Goettsch, Kristen Cahill, and Corey Goettsch, and his great-grandchildren, Logan Goettsch, LaNee Goettsch, Ethan Goettsch, and Eliza Goettsch. Leroy was born in Moline, Illinois, on September 20, 1931. He lived mostly in the Quad Cities area of Illinois and Iowa. He also lived in Germany during his stint in the US Army. He lived for some time in Dixon, Illinois, the hometown of President Ronald Reagan. He spent his last years in Colorado Springs, near his family, who live in the Front Range Urban Corridor. After obtaining a Bachelors of Science Degree in Business from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, Leroy served his country honorably in the US Army following the conclusion of the Korean War. He was stationed in Germany, and Marilyn joined him there. He attained the final rank of Corporal. Upon the completion of his duties, Leroy resumed working in the auto parts industry for his cousin Judd Mills as a buyer. He and Marilyn moved to Dixon in the early 1980s after purchasing Dixon Auto Parts, selling the business when they retired, which still operates in Dixon today. Leroy was direct and devoted. He always spoke his mind and never let the people he loved down. When his wife, Marilyn, was diagnosed with a form of Alzheimers Disease, he personally took care of her as long as he couldfor yearsand spent as much time as he could with her at her full-time care facility: neither weather nor holiday stopped him. Rain or snow, Christmas or weekend, he was always there for her. He was a devout Lutheran, attending church every week and acting as an officer for the churches at which he worshiped. In his free time, Leroy loved spending time with his family, both human and animal. He was especially fond of dogs, from little Chihuahuas like Penny, Koko, Punkin and Gus, to Butch, a 100-pound pit bull mix whose heart was as big as his appetite. He relished a good cocktail, making Happy Hour a regular part of his schedule. He was a big fan of music, including New Orleans Jazz and old Country music. He regularly attended the Bix Beiderbecke Dixieland Festival in Davenport and played Hawaiian-style lap steel guitar. He was even learning the pedal steel guitar, an exceedingly difficult instrument, in his last years. Living most of his life near the Mississippi, he loved boating. He enjoyed food and had quite the sweet tooth. Leroy will be dearly missed by all those who were lucky enough to know him. A memorial service in his honor will be held soon.
