"We walk in the Light, as He is in the Light . . ." (1 John 1:5-7)

Leroy Myron Jenson, aged 95, passed away on April 30, 2024, in Boise, Idaho. Born on December 18, 1928, in Roseau, Minnesota. Leroy's life was a testament of consistency, steadfast faith, and the profound impact one individual can have on those around him.

After years of working on his family farm in northern Minnesota, Leroy’s caring spirit led him to the field of nursing. He was the first male nurse to graduate from the University of Minnesota and, in fact, one of the first male nurses in the United States. His pioneering journey into nursing was inspired by his personal battle and triumph over Tuberculosis in 1952. During his recuperation in a sanatorium, Leroy discovered his calling to care for others, guiding him to pursue an education at the Lutheran Bible Institute and later at the University of Minnesota, where he earned his nursing degree.

His career was not just a profession but a calling. Leroy cared for patients with a passion and a drive that was felt by all who were fortunate to cross his path. Beyond his professional achievements, Leroy was deeply committed to spreading love and faith. He was never without a mustard seed necklace; a symbol of faith that he used to remind those around him of the remarkable transformation a small mustard seed can make into a robust and steadfast tree. It stands tall, unyielding to external forces and symbolizes growth, provision, dependence, and faith.

Leroy’s devotion to faith was unwavering. He and his family were members of the First Nazarene Church in Grand Junction, Colorado, where he volunteered his time, shared wisdom, and embodied the teachings of Jesus Christ. His life reflected his beliefs as spoken in 1 John 1: 5-7. He always walked in the light, and shared the message of God’s love, hope, and faith with those he met.

Leroy was a man of many interests that included cutting firewood, camping, gardening, making walking sticks and collecting rocks. Most importantly, he loved gathering with his family and church community, where he was known for his kindness and generosity.

Leroy will be profoundly missed by all who were blessed to know him, especially his family. Predeceased by his wife, Jean (Nielsen) Jenson; he leaves behind a legacy of love and faith through his children, Chris Jenson and Cheryl Schumacher; his son-in-law Mitchel; his daughter-in-law Debbie; his adored grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister Melva Loe-Brinkman; his brother Richard Jenson; and a multitude of friends and family touched by his life.

A service to celebrate Leroy's life and legacy will be held at the Grand Junction Nazarene Church, 2802 Patterson Road, Grand Junction, Colorado 81506, on September 14th, 2024, at 10 AM.

In honor of Leroy’s passion for the unborn child, the family requests donations to be made in Leroy's memory to:

  • The Pregnancy Center of Grand Junction, Colorado
  • Lifeline Pregnancy Resource Center in Nampa, Idaho

Accent Funeral Home

A local landmark in Meridian, Accent Funeral Home has been serving the community since 1986. The business was first established with a vision to offer services in a comfortable, homelike atmosphere. This vision is reflected in our building, a Tudor-style home built in 1938 for a local postman. When remodeling the house to accommodate the funeral home, much care was taken to preserve the original architectural integrity of the building. The Accent Funeral Home holds a special relationship with the Meridian community and is sensitive to the area’s changing needs, providing service and friendship to comfort those we serve....
